Does watching 3D give consumers a headache?

Published on 2017-08-24

Philips puts a lot of attention to this issue during the continuous development of the technology. 3D perception testing is an important tool to fine-tune the technology towards the best consumer proposition. At Philips we executed consumer tests with e.g. hard-core gamers and people watching movies in 3D. By measurements we could clearly see an increased end-user experience using 3D. No negative effects of prolonged viewing were reported or observed with people who had perfect use of both eyes. In questionnaires the respondents clearly indicated that they would like to take the 3D display home straight away. Note: There is evidence to suggest that consumers who do not have perfect use of both eyes may have trouble experiencing 3D and may experience mild eye irritation, but further research is required.
