    South Africa report

    Building trust in healthcare AI

    Perspectives from patients and professionals
    South Africa Research

South Africa faces a defining moment in healthcare.

This year’s Future Health Index report explores how AI is transforming healthcare in South Africa, helping professionals save time, improve access, and deliver more connected, compassionate care. Drawing on insights from clinicians and patients, the report highlights the importance of building trust through transparency, ethics, and proven results to drive meaningful adoption and unlock AI’s full potential for better outcomes and a stronger health system.

As technology evolves, so too does the opportunity to build a healthcare system that is more resilient, inclusive, and centred around what matters most: better outcomes for all.

The Trust Gap in Healthcare AI

Healthcare professionals show greater confidence in AI than patients, particularly in clinical settings. Bridging this trust gap is critical to accelerating adoption and improving care outcomes.

AI is driving faster, smarter care in South Africa by cutting delays and reclaiming clinical time, but greater potential remains to establish trust, expand access, boost adoption, and deliver better care to more people.
