Philips AVENT - Thinking about breastfeeding

Thinking about breastfeeding

At this point in your pregnancy, it’s natural to imagine bringing your little one home and thinking about how you will care for him or her.

Philips AVENT - Thinking about breastfeeding

Starting out

Getting the hang of breastfeeding can be tricky - nurses, lactation consultant and friends will all be on hand to help you out. As you’re thinking about breastfeeding consider the following tips to make it all a little easier:

  • Make yourself comfortable
Wear a comfy nursing bra and line it with breast pads – you may never spring a leak, but it’s good to have a breast pad there, just in case.  You might also like the support of a breastfeeding pillow, to help you get into a comfortable position.

  • Do it early and often
For the best chance of breastfeeding success, the WHO recommends starting within an hour of birth and initially feeding on demand, which means as much as baby wants, day or night.

  • Know your options
Breastfeeding doesn’t need to be an all-or-nothing commitment. If you’re heading back to work you can choose to express your milk and still breastfeed when you’re with your baby.
