Philips AVENT - From breastfeeding to bottle-feeding (and back)!

Maintaining your milk supply

  • The key to maintaining your milk supply is making sure it’s well established before varying feedings.
  • Stay consistent by pumping or breastfeeding throughout the day.

Replace one breast feed with one bottle feed

  • When you’re ready and have expressed enough milk for one feed, replace your usual breastfeed with a bottle of breast milk.
  • If you plan on replacing more than one breastfeed, gradually introduce more bottles into your feeding routine until you reach a balance that works for you.

Where to store breastmilk

You can store your expressed milk in the fridge for up to five days and in freezer for up to six months.

Supplement with formula

  • Some mothers choose to supplement with infant formula rather than bottled breast milk.
  • Follow the same replacement process described above.

Returning to breastfeeding

  • Spend lots of time close to your little one to get your milk flowing around the clock again.
  • Skin-to-skin contact helps.
  • Offer the second breast – even if your baby doesn’t seem particularly hungry.

If you’re unsure of which is right for, a lactation consultant can help you put together a combination plan.
